Dear Temple Sinai Family,
It is hard to believe that the COVID-19 pandemic has now been a part of our community for an entire year. It was exactly at this time last year that we began cancelling events and in-person services and programs and rethinking how we do everything at Temple and in all aspects of our lives. We mourn the incredible losses over the past year: family members and friends who have died, members of our greater community, the more than 500,000 lives lost across our country, and the millions who have died worldwide. It is important to look back and to reflect, but it is also important to look forward and to find hope. The numbers here in New Orleans are showing great improvements. More and more people are getting vaccinated. I want to thank everyone who made the vaccination drive at Temple this past Saturday happen and all of our volunteers. We are making great progress – better times are ahead. In the meantime, I encourage everyone to continue to wear masks, practice social distancing, avoid crowds, and get vaccinated as soon as possible. We can do this!
I am looking forward to our upcoming Temple Gala – it is less than two weeks away. Tomorrow is the last day to reserve your gourmet meal, so please sign up if you have not already done so. I also want to remind everyone that the silent auction and raffle are open. I hope you will consider supporting our biggest fundraiser of the year.
It’s time to start preparing for Passover. To help get you ready, on Sunday, March 21 we will be distributing at Temple Passover Packages of “Matzah, Manischewitz, & Macaroons.” Thanks to the generosity of donors, there is no charge for families. Please sign-up by clicking the attached flyer and plan on dropping by Temple on 3/21 (or Monday 3/22) so that we can wish you a “Happy Passover!”
You will also find a link to a sign-up form for the beginning of Passover. On the second night of Passover – Sunday, March 28 – we will be hosting an on-line Congregational Passover Celebration. We hope you will join us. We would also like to know if you are hosting a Zoom seder on the first night of Passover and would be willing to have additional people join you on-line OR if you are looking for an on-line seder to join on Saturday, March 27. Please let us know and we will try to help find you a seder.
Tomorrow evening we will continue our Adult Education Class, “Women of the Bible,” on Zoom at 7:00pm. I also invite you to join me for our Thursday Lunch Discussion this week at 12:30pm on Zoom.
Friday evening we will host a special joint Shabbat Service with Congregation Gemiluth Chassodim of Alexandria, LA. The log-in for Temple Sinai is the same as always. The service will be led by myself and Cantor Colman in our sanctuary, and Rabbi Raina Siroty in her sanctuary. I hope you will plan on joining us.
Please stay well and stay connected! Shalom!
Rabbi Daniel Sherman
