Temple Sinai has been very busy this June! First, we hosted Pulitzer and Emmy award-winning WWL-TV investigative reporter Mike Perlstein at our June 8 Shabbat service, where he gave a talk titled “How the News Media Has Never Been More Necessary and Embattled Than it is Today.” Then, at our June 15 Shabbat service, New Orleans City Councilmember Joe Giarrusso, III talked to the New Orleans Reform community about the role that Jews have played in civic life in New Orleans, and about public service in New Orleans in general.

In other news, the Temple Sinai softball team won the Synagogue Softball League championships after a 10-2 victory over Beth Israel! The Synagogue Softball League is a coed league that plays on Sundays from late February through June. For more information, contact Josh Danzig at jdanzig4@cox.net.

We are also pleased to announce that the Loyola University New Orleans College of Law, together with United Way of Southeast Louisiana, has launched the Nancy M. Marsiglia Institute of Justice, a 12-week course on the U.S. Constitution that will be offered for the fall 2018 and spring 2019 semesters. Nancy was a tireless volunteer and leader for many civic and political organizations throughout Louisiana, and a founding member of the Temple Sinai Cares Committee. Applications to the institute will be accepted until July 4; click here to learn more.
