Our Story

Welcome to Temple Sinai

Founded in 1870, Temple Sinai is the oldest Reform congregation in Louisiana – a community rooted in tradition and dedicated to Tikkun Olam (repairing the world). For more than 150 years, we’ve been a spiritual home for Jews of all backgrounds, blending history, music, culture, and learning in a vibrant, inclusive community.

At Temple Sinai, we aim to meet the spiritual, cultural, and educational needs of our members in a way that feels personal and welcoming. Our programs connect people at every stage of life – from Lox and Tots for young families to young adult gatherings, youth groups, and programs for older adults. Through Sisterhood, Brotherhood, family events, and committees focused on outreach, social justice, and worship, we provide ways for everyone to learn, connect, and be part of our community.

We are proud to be a congregation that welcomes everyone – including interfaith families, Jews of Color, LGBTQ+ members, newcomers to New Orleans, and multi-generational families who have called Temple Sinai home for decades.  Every member brings their own story, enriching our shared Jewish journey.

With a Senior Rabbi, Senior Cantor, and Rabbi Emeritus, our worship services range from small, intimate gatherings to grand classical services featuring music from our historic 1928 pipe organ in our awe-inspiring sanctuary.

Now, as always, Temple Sinai is more than a synagogue – it’s a community, and it’s your home.
